The Common-Tater
Hidden inside the yellow buckets of this planter are one of the most anticipated items we grow here at the farm. Sweet corn seeds! Our phones are already starting to ring with anxious customers calling in to find out if our corn is ready. Not yet. Curtis has been planting our sweet corn for many weeks now. He staggers the planting so we always have one patch of super fresh sweet corn to pick for our customers. Looking forward to seeing you at the produce stand in August! You can visit “Out-Standing In Their Field” to learn more about the men who hand pick all our corn.

The month of September usually offers some of the best sweet corn of the season and this year is no exception. Our sweet corn is growing strong and it is flavourful, juicy and tender. It’s so delicious that we have created new menu items at our food truck that our customers are snapping up. Our food truck is called Fry Days and it is located in Bradford, Ontario. For the month of September we are offering grilled sweet corn added to our wildly popular loaded fries, grilled corn on the cob and a fantastic Mexican Street Corn topping that can be added to any menu item of your choice. If Bradford is a bit far for you to travel to taste the wonders of our sweet corn, you can visit my blog “Surplus Sweet Corn Salad” for something new and exciting to cook with sweet corn.
And just like that it’s sweet corn season! This weekend we will be opening our sweet corn stand with Norfolk County corn while we wait for our own crop to be ready. We also have baskets of new potatoes ready and waiting for you. Enjoy our fresh and local produce while it’s in season. You can visit “At The Door” for more information about our hours and location.
Could there be a better office if you have to go to work on a Sunday morning? John has been learning how to plant the potato crop this year while Curtis has been busy planting sweet corn. If you look carefully at the third picture, you can see both our sons in their socially distanced tractors! Racing the weather is one thing that has not changed here at the farm. They were both up early this morning to get as much planting done as possible before the rain arrives. To see a video of the potato planter working you can visit “Tater Tales May 17th.”
Does Friday the 13th strike fear into your heart and leave you afraid to leave the house? Or is just another day in the calendar for you? As luck would have it, none of our produce is on the list of unlucky food! The sweet corn is the best is has been all season, the new potatoes are freshly dug, and we still have beautiful local tomatoes, carrots and more for sale at the farm door. All ladders have been removed from the property, there are no broken mirrors, and the black cats have been herded into the barn! Come and enjoy the local produce before your luck runs out and it disappears for the season. For our hours of operation and directions to the farm you can visit “Contact Us.”
