What better way to beat the winter blues here at the farm than to test cook our potatoes?! One snowy, stormy winter weekend RJ dug out the deep fryer and whipped up some fries. The fries featured in the photo were made from Yukon Gold potatoes, yellow flesh potatoes and two different kinds of russet potatoes. I am often asked what potato makes the best french fry, so let’s find out what our expert panel of taste testers decided. It was completely unanimous. The best fries are completely up to the individual who eats them, which leads to the undeniable conclusion that every potato makes an excellent french fry! We wash, pack and deliver our potatoes year round in the Greater Toronto Area to restaurants, food trucks, grocery stores and wholesale companies. If you’re looking for a new supplier, why not contact us? You can visit “Tractor Joy Riding” to see a video of John planting our potatoes as I tagged along for a ride.
As I take a few minutes today on International Women’s Day to reflect on the many powerful women who have changed the world, I would like to think that I have contributed to agriculture on a much smaller scale over the past 25 years here at our family farm. I don’t drive the tractors, I don’t work in the packing shed or deliver 50lb bags of potatoes (anymore) but I am extremely busy with our customers and endless paperwork. Rather than try to toot my own horn, I invite you to see what the experts have to say about me by visiting the link to an article where I was featured in the “Women In Business” section of the East Gwillimbury Bulletin magazine.
March is showing up just like a lion with frigid temperatures, snow squalls and intense winds in Southern Ontario. Historic amounts of snow have fallen this winter leaving our farm buried. Giant snowbanks, equipment full of snow, and buildings with only a teeny, tiny pathway to get to the door are some of the side effects. On the bright side, there are pristine white fields and a blue sky that lead to this photo shoot on a mild day with no howling winds for once. Rest assured that all our potatoes are safe and cozy with the correct storage temperatures and humidity levels in their buildings! You can visit “Winter Wonderland” to see some stunning phots of the farm in winter in December 2022.
