The Common-Tater
We have a great selection of awesome pumpkins here at the farm. They’re waiting for you to take them home and turn them into your Halloween masterpieces. I skipped off work early to carve these ones to get you inspired. Since I was working on a blog, I was technically still working…right?? Right! We are open to the general public seven days a week. You can visit “At The Door” for pricing and our hours of operation.

Now that we’re finished the potato harvest, we can turn our attention to another crop. These beautiful, extra-large pumpkins were grown by our sons, John and Curtis. The pumpkins had a bit of a tough growing season this year. Cooler temperatures, cloudy skies and too much rain slowed down the ripening process. But now they are ready and waiting to be your Halloween Jack-O-Lantern! You can visit “At The Door” for pricing and our hours of operation.
What’s growing at the farm today? Plenty! All our potatoes plants are in flower which means tubers are forming (which means potatoes are growing.) Did you know that potato plants have different colours flowers depending on the variety of potato that has been planted? The plants with white flowers are our early crop AC Chaleur round white potatoes and the plants with pink flowers are our very popular Yukon Gem potatoes.
The sweet corn got off to a slow start due to very cool ground temperatures this spring, but I think you can see it’s really taking off now. Acres and acres and acres of sweetness coming soon! And last (but never least) the pumpkin seeds have germinated and the plants getting bigger every day. They take some time to get established, but soon they will be enormous plants sprawled all over the field. So all in all, our crops are growing nicely. You can visit “The Flowers Of Our Farm” to see more pictures of our crops in flower during the summer months. Whenever I hear the words pumpkin patch, the image of Linus waiting patiently for “The Great Pumpkin” to arrive comes to my mind. Welcome to our pumpkin patch! John and Curtis are planting this field using our corn planter that has been adjusted with a few modifications. The video pans out to show our entire pumpkin patch where they will plant 5 different varieties of pumpkins as well as butternut squash, pepper squash and spaghetti squash. You can visit “Pumpkins & Squash” to learn more about how John & Curtis figured out how to modify the corn planter in the first year they grew fall produce.
I am proud to showcase the beautiful pumpkins grown by my sons John & Curtis. This year one of the pumpkin patches was planted in the field next to my house. It was interesting to watch them grow over the summer. And now they are ready for your Thanksgiving décor and for your Hallowe’en jack-o-lanterns. They also have grown white pumpkins, butternut squash, pepper squash and spaghetti squash. You can visit “At The Door” to see pricing, our hours of operation and directions to the farm.
